Adapting to Digital Transformation, Even IT Novices Can Now Lead Technological Advancements. (Part 2)
From the emergence of ChatGPT to the explosive growth of AI tool applications, explore various AI tools that serve as the crucial foundation for mastering intelligent development. As a pivotal component of the company's exploration into the integration of AI with work, the IT Adoption team, led by Simon and Raven, has been engaged in this innovative experimental project for nearly a year. Transitioning from the initial period of trial and error to achieving stable development and simultaneous use of multiple tools, their achievements are undoubtedly hard-won. The current projects undertaken by the IT Adoption team maximize benefits with limited software resources. In the following section, we will introduce some of the achievements Simon and Raven have gained from their journey from beginners to advanced levels.
Research Project 1: In-House App Development
Observing an internal need, Simon noticed that the process of applying for leave through the original system was rather complex for colleagues. He envisioned a new app that could streamline the leave application process for internal departmental use. For this project, Simon employed the Microsoft Power App tool. Power Apps serve as a platform for developing mini applications, featuring numerous templates that can be readily modified, greatly facilitating entry-level operations for IT novices.
After meticulous development by Simon, the current leave application app can be seamlessly integrated into the Teams collaboration tool, providing convenient access anytime, anywhere. The approval process is now transparent and efficient, accelerating speed and enhancing overall office efficiency.
Research Project 2: Report Automation
Raven routinely handles extensive data and generates visual reports. To address this demand, Raven chose to utilize Microsoft Power BI and Python. Power BI is a data visualization tool developed by Microsoft, while Python serves as an introductory programming tool, a strong support for the Power BI data visualization process after learning.
Raven used an interesting analogy to explain his work. When dealing with large volumes of data, he likened the data to diverse students, with Python acting as the teacher that brings order to the students (data). Power BI then serves as the classroom where students (data) are placed in designated positions as per a set order. With guidance from the teacher (Python), the students (data) have their own identification numbers and can quickly adapt when the need arises, much like completing assignments (building visualizations) according to classroom instructions (Power BI). Thus, once such a process is established, when analyzing similar data again, the data can be seamlessly integrated into the process, significantly saving time on repetitive analysis.
When faced with challenges, a preference for seeking answers on their own
After nearly a year of operation, the IT Adoption team has independently executed several micro IT projects and taken on daily maintenance responsibilities. When encountering technical difficulties, they don't immediately turn to the company's IT department for answers. Instead, they tend to use platforms like GPT and Microsoft forums to quickly find solutions.
Both Simon and Raven agree that the process of seeking answers contributes to rapid progress and absorption. Taking the initiative, rather than relying solely on asking questions and waiting for answers, aligns with the style of the IT Adoption team. In the era of abundant AI tools, the task at hand is not simply about acquiring and learning new tools, but rather gradually understanding the fundamental logic of the entire AI landscape through the learning process.
Learning is a source of motivation, not pressure
During the interview, when asked whether the members of the IT Adoption team feel an increase in work-related stress due to learning numerous new tools, Simon explained that when exploring directions they are genuinely interested in, they don't feel overwhelmed. Instead, they feel more motivated.
The IT Adoption team's routine training includes monthly information sharing sessions and weekly small-scale discussions. They actively explore the diversity of AI tool learning and application, training in usable AI tools based on job requirements. Lifelong learning is essential, and both employees and companies must progress together through ongoing education. Leveraging this innovation, the two colleagues in the IT Adoption team have acquired more skills. Simon participated in Microsoft's showcase under the company's name, gaining numerous examples of Microsoft tool applications, which provided vivid guidance for his future tool selection. During his spare time, Raven pursued an advanced data analysis certificate, instantly applying the knowledge gained in class to his projects, achieving a seamless cycle of learning and application.
A Win-Win-Win Formula for Creating a Visionary Future
With increased productivity, the department can allocate resources to technological development. Currently, Simon and Raven, part of the Global Operations Department, have been extracted from general operations to establish the IT Adoption team. They lead the department in introducing more new technologies and automation. Simultaneously, they extend their experience to other departments, striving to lower the threshold for application and expedite non-decision-making tasks within the company.
With the advancement of AI, human roles are transforming, with repetitive and non-decision-making tasks gradually being taken over by AI. Thus, the most secure way to safeguard employees is by enhancing their competitiveness, accompanying the growth of the era, and avoiding concerns about being replaced. Hantec Group's people-centric philosophy fuels a journey of growth alongside its employees, collaboratively ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and service quality. This concerted effort is poised to usher in a future marked by a tripartite triumph, benefiting not only the company and its dedicated workforce but also resonating positively with its valued customers.
